How Broome’s top support workers are getting recognised, WA-wide

Psychosocial Recovery Coaches

“I’d like to thank…”

We don’t work for recognition, but isn’t it nice when our hard work gets noticed?

Being a support worker isn’t always an easy job – it can be fun, rewarding and busy. And sure, there are days when you might say: “this doesn’t feel like work,” but there are many challenges and barriers for success.

It’s also hard not to get emotionally involved with those we support – we’re only human.

Overcoming challenging behaviours, finding ways to connect with your clients, becoming a companion and friend are all things that make a top support worker. And, at Kimberley Care Group, one of our support workers and one of our Partners have been nominated for the 2023 WA Disability Awards.

By proxy, we have earned bragging rights of this fact for ourselves.

So, what are the awards about?

The awards

The WA Disability Support Awards give praise and recognition of individuals and teams for a big contribution to the disability sector.

It celebrates those that go above and beyond in their roles, providing top quality care and support.

Working in a difficult sector, The Awards give a chance to commend and appreciate people that want to better disability supports, and focus on positive outcomes.

The Award categories are as follows:

  • Excellence in Rights Promotion
  • Excellence in Leadership
  • Excellence in Innovation
  • Excellence in Regional Support
  • Excellence in Supporting Employment Outcomes
  • Excellence in Supporting Inclusion and Citizenship

The who’s who

Paul Kelly – our very own. But, no, he isn’t the famous Australian music star (or his son).

For what he can’t create musically, he makes up for with his epic support skills.

He has worked in the Kimberley for a long time, and has supported clients from various backgrounds, helping them achieve their goals.

From supporting NDIS participants in the gym, taking them on incredible road trips to Exmouth or a city getaway to Darwin for respite (and to work on functional life skills), Paul recognises that there are innovative ways to support clients.

Paul goes above and beyond for Kimberley Care Group, its team and those we support. We couldn’t be happier that Paul is getting recognised for this.

Fingers crossed, Paul!

And, long term Partner of Kimberley Care Group, Nathan Allaway has been nominated.

We’ve worked with Nathan ever since the beginning of Kimberley Care Group. Working collaboratively with shared clients, creating a nurtured environment – the ethos of our business models aligns.

Nathan recognises the impact of working together with other community services, and with that, our clients have had their opportunities increased. Nathan, too, supported mutual clients on the trip to Exmouth where the whole group got to swim with whale sharks (jealous, much?) and on the lads trip to Darwin.

Both Nathan and Paul are nominated as part of one of our mutual client’s teams in the below four (FOUR!) categories:

  • Excellence in Rights Promotion
  • Excellence in Regional Support
  • Excellence in Supporting Employment Outcomes
  • Excellence in Supporting Inclusion and Citizenship

Bring on Friday, 24th March 2023 – Nathan and Paul, we’re rooting for you!
