Short & Medium Term Accommodation (STA/MTA) with Kimberley Care Group
At Kimberley Care Group, we believe a temporary stay should still feel like home: safe, respectful, and surrounded by people who care. Short Term Accommodation (STA) and Medium Term Accommodation (MTA) provide temporary housing or respite for NDIS participants when their usual arrangements aren’t available or appropriate.
What is STA and MTA under the NDIS?
STA is commonly used for respite, giving families a break while ensuring participants receive safe, supported care.
MTA helps people who are waiting for a more permanent housing solution (like SIL or SDA), often after hospital discharge or a crisis situation.

How to access STA/MTA through the NDIS
STA and MTA are typically funded under Core Supports (STA) and Capacity Building or Home and Living (MTA). Participants may qualify if they:
Need a temporary housing solution
Require respite to support their family
Are transitioning between care settings
Experience a housing disruption or emergency
Kimberley Care Group can assist with eligibility, documentation, and NDIS coordination.
Can I access STA or MTA while waiting for SIL or SDA?
Yes. Short and Medium Term Accommodation is ideal for participants transitioning to long-term housing like Supported Independent Living (SIL) or Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA). It provides safe, supported housing while your permanent arrangement is being finalised.
Is STA the same as respite care?
Yes, in many cases. STA funding is commonly used for short breaks, especially when carers need respite or participants need time away from their usual environment. It includes 24/7 support, accommodation, meals, and activities for a few days to several weeks.
How long can I stay in Medium Term Accommodation?
MTA is usually approved for up to 90 days but can vary depending on your situation. It’s often used after hospital discharge, during home modifications, or while waiting for a longer-term housing solution.
Not sure if we can support you?
The majority of our services are covered by NDIS funding, however we have been flexible with private supports and brokerage before. We also offer Veterans’ Affairs funding as an option.
