Supported Independent Living (SIL) with Kimberley Care Group
As an approved NDIS Provider of Supported Independent Living (SIL) supports, KCG helps people with disability to live more independently and feel at home in their own supported accommodation.
What is Supported Independent Living (SIL)?
SIL is an NDIS-funded support for people with disabilities who need safe, supported living and help with daily tasks and personal care. Youβll live in one of our homes in the Kimberley or Mid-West regions, including Geraldton, often alongside other participants who share your personality and lifestyle, and receive 24/7 support to help you feel safe, capable, and confident in your space.
SIL includes assistance with everyday activities like cooking, cleaning, managing medication, and developing life skills. Itβs especially suited for individuals with very high support needs who require the consistency of professional, ongoing care in a shared or individual setting.
SIL is part of your NDIS Home and Living supports. While supported independent living funding helps cover the cost of staff and services, it doesnβt pay for your rent, food or household bills.

How to access SIL through the NDIS
To access SIL, youβll need to show that you require regular support to manage daily living. Hereβs how it works:
Step one: Talk to your Support Coordinator
Theyβll help you determine whether SIL is right for you, and what level of support you need.
Step two: Gather the right documentation
This may include assessments from occupational therapists and other allied health professionals.
Step three: Submit your request to the NDIA
Your request should outline your goals, support needs, preferred living setup, and any risks or safety considerations.
Step four: Receive funding approval
If approved, SIL will be added to your Core Supports budget, along with any other relevant Home and Living supports.
As an approved NDIS Provider of SIL supports, KCG can help you and your Support Coordinator prepare the right information for SIL applications and reviews.
Who is SIL designed for?
SIL is a great option for people who:
Need support with everyday activities like meal prep, showering/toileting or medication
Want to live with others in a shared home environment
Have ongoing or complex support needs that require professional staff on-site
Are moving from family homes, hospitals or temporary accommodation into something more stable
Value routine, structure and around-the-clock support
Our SIL model also works well for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander participants who want to remain connected to culture, Country, and community. Where it fits within your NDIS plan, we support Return to Country trips, cultural activities, and community access so you can maintain important relationships and take part in local events. Each home is supported by local staff who live and work in the Kimberley, bringing regional knowledge, cultural understanding, and strong community connections into everyday support.
What supports are included in SIL?

ILO vs SIL β Whatβs the difference?
ILO and Supported Independent Living (SIL) are both funded by the NDIS, but they support different ways of living.
ILO (Independent Living Option) |
SIL (Supported Independent Living) |
|---|---|
| Flexible setup, tailored to your preferences | Group home or shared support model |
| Based on informal and formal supports | Based on 24/7 professional support |
| Suits people who want more independence | Suits people who need high-level, ongoing care |
| Supports arranged around your lifestyle | Regular shifts and rostered staff |
ILO vs SIL: If you’re looking for more choice, independence, and a home that reflects you, ILO may be the right fit. If you require around-the-clock care and support workers on-site 24/7, SIL may be a better option. Talk to your Support Coordinator or planner to see what suits you best.

SIL FAQs
Can I move from SIL to ILO?
Yes. If your needs or goals change, and you want a more flexible model, Individualised Living Options (ILO) might be a better fit. We can help you explore this if the time feels right.
Can I keep my SDA funding and still have SIL?
Yes. Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA) and SIL serve different purposes. SDA helps pay for the home itself, while SIL provides daily support services. Many people use both together for a complete living and care solution.
Not sure if we can support you?
The majority of our services are covered by NDIS funding, however we have been flexible with private supports and brokerage before. We also offer Veterans’ Affairs funding as an option.
